Couture vivid color · Museum District, Houston
A couture color house beside the Menil, where pink, coral, cobalt and silver are mixed one client at a time in a room with nothing else to look at.
The room
Saskia trained as a painter in Budapest and spent a decade as color director for runway shows in New York and Paris. When she came to Houston she rented a white-box gallery space two blocks from the Menil and left it exactly as it was: white walls, white floor, north light and a single chair.
In a room with no distractions, every shade reads truthfully. We consult for as long as it takes, lighten slowly and saturate fully. Then we photograph the result against the wall, the way a gallery documents a new piece.

Saskia sketched my color before she mixed it. I left with the most beautiful coral I've ever seen and a print of it on the white wall.
Two sittings to gallery white, and my hair still feels like silk. Ines doesn't rush and it shows.
Teo's cobalt is the deepest blue I've ever worn. It faded to a beautiful denim, never green.
Amara colored my coils pink without a single broken curl. Every curl is perfect.
We commissioned color for an album cover. The white room made it look like a museum piece.
The quietest, most considered salon I've ever been in. Nothing on the walls but light.
Rhys cut my color-block bob so precisely the line still hasn't moved six weeks later.
