Stylists at work beneath tall carved-wood mirrors in a classic, sunlit salon

Hair company · Since 1926 · Muskogee

Honest cuts. Handsome color. A hundred years running.

A family hair shop in a brick storefront on Broadway — fades and flat-tops up front, color and long-hair work in the back, coffee always on.

Since 1926

Four owners, one storefront, zero shortcuts.

Pecan Street Hair Co. opened as a two-chair barbershop when Muskogee still had streetcars. It became a salon in the ’60s, nearly closed in the ’90s and was rescued by Walt and June Harjo in 2008.

They kept the hex-tile floor, the brass cash register and the original barber chair — and added a color bar, a long-hair room and a kids’ bench that spins.

My grandfather got his hair cut in that same barber chair. Walt let me sit in it for my son’s first haircut.
