Starter locs
Comb coils or two-strands, parted clean.
$165Est. 1998 · Freetown, Lafayette
Three generations of the Thibodeaux family starting locs, cutting fades and keeping Lafayette's crowns in order.
The parlour
Clarence Thibodeaux opened the shop with two barber chairs and a loc station his daughter talked him into. Twenty-eight years later, Vivienne runs the loc side, grandson Andre runs the fades, and Clarence still sweeps up at closing.
Old-school craft, new-school care: straight-razor line-ups, interlocks you could set a watch by, and a coffee pot that has never once been empty.

Mr. Clarence cut my hair when I was six. Now Andre cuts my son's. That's this shop.
Vivienne started my locs in 2009. Sixteen years and not one thin root.
Andre's fade is the cleanest in Lafayette. I drive in from Opelousas every two weeks.
They did my whole wedding party at the shop with coffee and beignets. Legendary.
Marcus's detox and retwist made my locs feel brand new.
The straight-razor shave is the best twenty minutes of my month.
My grandson sat still for his first haircut. Mr. Jamal is patient as a saint.
