Zuri Bell, Curl & coil cutter

Meet Zuri

I learned on my own head.

Nobody in Beaumont knew what to do with my hair when I was growing up, so I learned in my mama’s kitchen with a spray bottle and a YouTube tutorial on loop. By the time I finished beauty school in Houston, I was the one the instructors sent the curly clients to.

I came home in 2017 and set up one chair in the Calder Exchange. I cut your hair dry, in its natural shape, then I teach you the wash day that keeps it there. My clients range from five-year-olds to great-grandmothers, and every one of them leaves knowing their pattern.

Sample client reviews

Kind words from the chair

Ten years of hiding my hair in buns and Zuri gave me a shape I actually want to wear out. My 4C never looked this full.
Keisha W.Dry coil cut
She cut off my relaxed ends and somehow I didn’t cry. Zuri talked me through every inch.
Danielle O.Big chop reset
My daughter asks to go to ‘Miss Zuri’s’ now. That alone is worth it.

Good to know

Questions, answered

How should my hair be when I arrive?

Clean, dry and loose — no braids, buns or twist-outs from three days ago. I need to see your coils in their natural state.

Will I lose length?

Only what’s damaged. I show you the ends before I cut them so you can say yes or no.

Do you do silk presses?

No. I specialize in curls worn curly. I’ll happily refer you to a press artist I trust.

Can I bring my kids?

Yes, as clients. Book them their own slot so nobody’s rushed.

What products do you use?

Whatever your hair likes. I keep a shelf of drugstore and boutique brands so you can try before you buy.

How often should I come back?

Every 12 weeks for most coils. Tapered cuts every 4 to 6.
