Rafael's grandfather cut hair on Commerce Street for forty years. Rafael swept the floors there every Saturday from the age of nine.

At sixteen he was trusted with his first straight-razor shave — on his grandfather. He still uses the same strop.

In 2017 he leased a corner of the old Pearl brewhouse, stripped it to the brick and lined it with black lacquer and gold-leaf mirrors.

A bar went in before the third chair. Members keep a bottle in a brass locker; everyone gets a drink while they wait.
