Chapter 01 — East Cesar Chavez, Austin, TX
Curl studio · East Austin
Waves, curls, coils and the in-betweens — cut dry, styled loud and celebrated by a studio where every gender and texture is the main event.
Chapter one
Spiral Parade began as Rafa cutting friends’ curls at a kitchen table, with a playlist and a lot of opinions about sulfates. Word spread. The kitchen got crowded.
Now it’s a bright corner studio on Cesar Chavez — three chairs, a wall of color swatches and a standing rule: nobody apologizes for their hair here.
— Rafa Quintero, founder (he/him)

I’m nonbinary and have curly hair, and this is the first salon where neither of those things was a whole conversation.
Rafa painted copper into my curls one spiral at a time. In the sun it looks like a lava lamp. A good one.
My son asks to go to the haircut party. He means Spiral Parade. I have no notes.
