Three halls, twenty-four chairs and eighteen years of neighbors. Classic cuts, hot-towel shaves and an apprenticeship that's trained half the barbers in Oklahoma City.
Act one
It started under a juniper tree.
In 2008 Elias Whitaker cut hair on a folding chair under the juniper tree behind his grandmother's house on 16th Street. Neighbors lined up on Saturdays; somebody brought a radio, somebody brought lemonade.
When the old hardware store across the street went up for lease, the neighborhood helped him paint it green. Juniper Barber Hall has grown to three halls since — but every one still feels like that Saturday afternoon.
