Chapter 01 — Hello
Barber · Downtown Lawton, OK
Hello, I’m Sal. Sit down, the towel is hot.
Forty-four years of scissor cuts, flat-tops and straight-razor shaves, one chair, and coffee on the house.

Chapter 02 — The long way here
I learned on a ship, then I came to Oklahoma.
My father was a barber in Izmir, and I cut hair for sailors on a merchant ship before I ever had a license. In 1982 a cousin brought me to Lawton, and I cut soldiers from Fort Sill for twenty years — high-and-tights, flat-tops, every regulation you can name.
Now I keep one chair in the old pink-tiled shop on C Avenue. The tile was here before me and I would never paint over it. Fathers bring sons, and some of those sons now bring their own. I still strop my razor every morning and I still warm the towels in the same steamer.

Kind words from the chair
Sal cut my hair when I was a private at Fort Sill in 1994. I drive in from Duncan now and he still remembers how I like my sides.
Best shave of my life. Three hot towels and not one nick.
Took my son for his first haircut. Sal gave him a lollipop and a certificate. My dad got his first haircut in the same chair.
