The Shop on Magnolia

Some things a man shouldn't rush.

Walter Gentry Sr. hung the pole outside 1418 W. Magnolia in the spring of 1961 with two chairs, one strop and a promise: every man leaves looking like he has somewhere important to be.

Sixty-odd years later his grandson Walt runs the floor. The chairs are still Koken porcelain, the towels still come out of a steamer at 160°, and the coffee is still free. What's changed: a sharper fade, a proper beard program, and a front desk that will text you when your chair is ready.

  • Hot-towel everythingEvery cut finishes with a steamed towel and a straight-razor neck shave.
  • No rush on the clockCuts are booked in 45-minute blocks — never squeezed.
  • A seat at the barCoffee, a cold Topo Chico, or two fingers of something for members.

Before You Sit Down

Questions, answered.

Anything else, call the front desk at (817) 555-0148 — a human picks up.

Do I need an appointment, or can I walk in?

Both. Two chairs are held for walk-ins every day; check the Wait Board above before you come. Reservations guarantee your barber and time.

How long does a hot-towel shave take?

Plan on 45 minutes. It's three steamed towels, pre-shave oil, warm lather, two razor passes and a cold-towel finish — not something we hurry.

Do you cut kids' hair?

Absolutely — young gentlemen 12 and under are $30. Saturday mornings are popular, so reserve if you can.

What's your cancellation policy?

Give us four hours' notice and there's never a fee. No-shows are charged 50% of the service so we can keep the chair fair for everyone.

Can I book the shop for a wedding party?

Yes. We close the shop after hours for groomsmen packages starting at $55 per person, including drinks and a hot-towel finish. Request a date below.

Is there parking?

Free lot behind the building off Lipscomb Street, plus metered spots on Magnolia. The back door rings the bell, too.
